It was in the middle of the 70s. I had a photo assignment at the WDR. Suddenly I noticed the old man with his beard. He was there with his son as a companion. So exactly I do not know it any more. I asked him if I could do a portrait of him in my studio. Normally I do not do such things, but the charisma was very special. To my surprise he agreed.
He came then also punctually in the studio. He had been brought because he didn't have a driver's license. I shot a roll of film. The 8 shots were enough to make the portrait. I made another appointment with him to give him his pictures, but he never showed up. Too bad, because the series turned out well. Unfortunately, this is my only memory of that session. I still don't know his name or where he came from. So if anyone has a name please let me know.
